Erik Ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has criticized four of his players for their poor performance against Brighton. The Seagulls outplayed the Red Devils throughout the match, and the result was settled by a last-minute penalty from Alexis Mac Allister. Despite both teams having chances to score, Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma missed a few opportunities, while United were particularly wasteful in front of goal. Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Antony, and Anthony Martial all missed good chances, and they have all felt the wrath of their manager. Ten Hag did not hold back as he declared that one of the opportunities “had to go in” when he was asked about his team’s performance.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Ten Hag said that his team needed to be more clinical with their chances in the first half. He also expressed disappointment at the team’s loss of focus towards the end of the match, which led to the conceding of a goal. However, he acknowledged that the team was a bit unlucky as the corner came from a free-kick that should not have been given. Despite the setback, Ten Hag urged his team to bounce back in their next match against West Ham on Sunday. He emphasized that they had clear chances to score against Brighton, and players like Antony dos Santos, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Casemiro should have done better. A win against West Ham would almost guarantee Manchester United a spot in the Champions League next season.
