Manchester United are reportedly targeting Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard as their top transfer target in defence this summer. The 27-year-old French international can play as a right-back or in central defence, and United are said to have taken “concrete steps” to sign him, according to French outlet L’Equipe. However, Barcelona are also interested in Pavard, who is set to enter the final year of his current deal in July after rejecting a contract extension. United are looking to bring in defensive reinforcements amid rumours that captain Harry Maguire may leave the club. Pavard has won four Bundesliga titles and the Champions League during his time at Bayern, and was named in the 2020 Bundesliga Team of the Season.
