Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that winger Antony is unlikely to be fit for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday. The Brazilian was stretchered off in United’s 4-1 win over Chelsea last week, and despite Ten Hag being optimistic about his chances of playing at Wembley, it now appears unlikely. The news is a further blow to United, who are already without striker Anthony Martial and defender Lisandro Martinez. However, Ten Hag is remaining positive, stating that the team has a good squad and will make a good team from the players available.
Ten Hag has provided stability to United this season, following last season’s upheaval which saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick all given a stint at managing the club. The team has shown a stronger face this season and is ready to put the brakes on City’s Treble bid. United completed the same feat in 1999 and now have the opportunity to preserve bragging rights, should they find a way to derail Pep Guardiola’s well-oiled machine.
Despite the rivalry, Ten Hag insists that the focus is purely on United adding another piece of silverware to the trophy cabinet. He said: “We want to win, we want to win a cup. It’s not about stopping them, it’s about that we win. We have a great opportunity.” TalkSPORT will bring live coverage of the FA Cup final from Wembley Stadium with kick-off at 3pm.
