“Man City’s Seven Treble Heroes at Risk in Guardiola’s Summer Revamp”

Manchester City’s historic Treble win on Saturday night may have been the last time some of Pep Guardiola’s squad are seen in sky blue, with seven players facing the chop despite their impressive achievements. Guardiola is expected to make several changes to the squad this summer, with question marks over several of the relatively small group of senior players assembled at the Etihad. While City are aware they can never stand still, Guardiola is also keen to keep some of his key players, including 32-year-old skipper Ilkay Gundogan, who played a key role in several games during the season. Fellow midfield stalwart Bernardo Silva has asked City to consider offers for him for the past two summers due to his wish to be nearer to his homeland, but Guardiola is desperate for him to stay. City may also face a fight to keep hold of Riyad Mahrez, who has been on the bench for the big games recently. Guardiola may need to spend on bolstering the defence too, with defender Joao Cancelo set to leave and French-born Spanish international centre-back Aymeric Laporte also potentially moving on.
