The Premier League title race is heating up as Manchester City continues to close in on leaders Arsenal. Pep Guardiola’s defending champions have reduced the gap to just four points, and with a game in hand, they have a guaranteed chance to further reduce the deficit when they face Arsenal later this month. City’s superior goal difference also gives them an edge in the title race.
City’s recent lethal run of form has put them in a strong position to challenge for the title. They secured a 3-1 win against Leicester, while Arsenal dropped points for the second consecutive game, drawing 2-2 with West Ham on Sunday.
However, the date for City’s game-in-hand against Brighton has not yet been confirmed by the Premier League. The fixture was originally scheduled for four days before City’s clash with Arsenal on April 22, but it was postponed due to City’s FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United at Wembley instead.
Confirmation of a new date for the Brighton game will prove tricky due to City’s Champions League success. If they progress to the semi-finals, they will have two free midweeks in mid-May when the Champions League fixtures are scheduled to take place. However, if they go through as expected, they will be on European duty on May 9 and May 16, leaving only the week commencing May 22 for domestic bosses to organise City’s game against Brighton.
City faces Chelsea on May 20 before the Premier League season finishes on May 28 with a trip to Brentford. The most probable date for City vs Brighton is Wednesday, May 24.
The Premier League title race is set to go down to the wire, with both Arsenal and Manchester City fighting for the top spot. It remains to be seen whether City can close the gap further and overtake Arsenal in the coming weeks.
