Erling Haaland Returns to Training and Expected to Play Against Liverpool
Erling Haaland is set to make his return to the pitch when Manchester City faces Liverpool this Saturday. The Norwegian striker suffered an ankle injury while playing for his national team against the Faroe Islands last week. However, after receiving treatment in Manchester, Haaland has returned to training and is expected to be fit for the upcoming match.
Ankle Injury Forces Haaland to Withdraw from Euro 2024 Qualifier
During the international break, Haaland picked up an ankle issue that forced him to withdraw from Norway’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Scotland. Although the injury is not serious, it has caused him significant pain and limited his mobility, making him unable to participate in the Scotland game.
According to Norway’s team doctor Ola Sand, “The injury is not serious, but he is in so much pain and somewhat restricted function that the Scotland game unfortunately comes a little too early.”
Pep Guardiola to Provide Further Update on Haaland’s Condition
Haaland’s return to training is a positive sign for Manchester City, but manager Pep Guardiola will provide a further update on the striker’s condition during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon. Guardiola will assess Haaland’s fitness and determine if he is ready to face Liverpool.
Nathan Ake Also Returns to Training
In addition to Haaland, Nathan Ake, who missed the previous match against Chelsea due to an unspecified injury, has also returned to training with the squad. This boosts Manchester City’s defensive options ahead of the crucial clash with Liverpool.
Liverpool Receives Boost with Four Players Returning to Training
On the other side, Liverpool has received a boost of their own as Joe Gomez, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Ibrahima Konate have all returned to training. These players missed the victory over Brentford before the international break due to various injuries, but their return provides manager Jurgen Klopp with more options for the match against Manchester City.
Top of the Table Clash
Manchester City currently sits at the top of the Premier League table, one point ahead of both Liverpool and Arsenal. Saturday’s match between City and Liverpool is expected to be a heavyweight clash that could have significant implications for the title race.
