Manchester City won’t appeal Rodri’s three-match ban
Manchester City will not appeal against Rodri’s three-match ban with the midfielder set to miss the Premier League showdown with Arsenal as a result.
Rodri was shown a straight red card during City’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday having raised his hands to Morgan Gibbs-White’s throat during a heated exchange in the second-half.
The red card earned the Spain international a three-match ban for violent conduct, with Pep Guardiola hinting post-match he was not in favour of City launching an appeal.
Rodri Set to Miss Premier League Showdown with Arsenal
The Daily Mail report the club are in agreement with Rodri set to begin his suspension on Wednesday when City take on Newcastle United in their Carabao Cup third round clash.
Asked whether he was angry with Rodri following his sending off, Guardiola said on Saturday: ‘Yes. I don’t like to play with 10 for our faults. I said at half-time, be careful guys. The game has been in a position where we are comfortable. Relax, control your emotions. Unfortunately Rodri didn’t do it.’
Guardiola also confirmed Rodri had apologised to his teammates. ‘He has done it. Rodri is an incredible player. Kyle [Walker] has done it in the past. It’s emotions, they do it. The trick is to control yourself. I cannot control myself but I don’t play.’
Rodri Will Also Miss Wolves Trip
Rodri will also miss Saturday’s trip to Wolves before they head to Arsenal on Sunday 8 October.
City have won each of their opening six league games this season, already four points clear of last season’s runners up who were held to a 2-2 draw against neighbours Tottenham on Sunday.
Conclusion
Manchester City have decided not to appeal against Rodri’s three-match ban, meaning the midfielder will miss the Premier League showdown with Arsenal as well as the Carabao Cup third round clash with Newcastle United and Saturday’s trip to Wolves. Pep Guardiola has expressed his disappointment at Rodri’s sending off, but has also confirmed that the Spain international has apologised to his teammates.
