Manchester City Agree £77M Deal to Sign Josko Gvardiol
Manchester City have agreed a £77 million fee with RB Leipzig to sign Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol. The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising centre-backs in world football following his rapid development with Leipzig, having played 87 times for the Bundesliga club since signing from Dynamo Zagreb in 2021.
Gvardiol’s Development at Leipzig
Gvardiol has been a regular starter for Leipzig since joining the club in 2021, making two appearances against Manchester City in last season’s Champions League. He has been a key part of the team’s success, helping them to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga and a semi-final appearance in the Champions League.
City Looking to Strengthen Defence
Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen his defence this summer, having lost Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan, whilst signing Chelsea ace Mateo Kovacic. Gvardiol is expected to become one of City’s most expensive players of all-time and will provide competition for Ruben Dias at centre-back.
The move could also see Aymeric Laporte leave the club, with interest from Tottenham and Atletico Madrid in the Spaniard. Gvardiol is expected in the north-west later this week to undergo a medical and complete his move to Manchester City.
