Manchester City agree £55.5million deal for Jeremy Doku
Manchester City have agreed a £55.5million deal with Rennes for Belgian winger Jeremy Doku. The 21-year-old is set to undergo a medical in the north-west over the next 48 hours before signing a five-year deal with City.
Impressive Ligue 1 campaign
Doku had attracted interest from around the Premier League following an impressive Ligue 1 campaign last term. He scored six times last season, and he netted on the opening day of this campaign.
Direct style of play
Pep Guardiola wants Doku for his direct style of play and his ability to take defenders on in a one-on-one. He will become City’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol.
Replacing Riyad Mahrez
Doku will replace Riyad Mahrez, who left City for Barcelona earlier this summer. Guardiola remains keen on signing another midfielder, given Kevin De Bruyne is out for at least the next three months. City had agreed a deal with West Ham for Lucas Paqueta but it’s unclear if the club will proceed with the transfer.
