Manchester City Set to Sign Claudio Echeverri for £22 Million
Manchester City is on the verge of completing the signing of Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri for a fee of £22 million, according to sources at talkSPORT.
The 17-year-old midfielder will initially be loaned back to his current club, River Plate, to continue his development before joining Manchester City in the north west of England.
Manchester City managed to beat out tough competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Barcelona to secure the signing of Echeverri.
Echeverri caught the attention of top clubs worldwide after his impressive performances for Argentina in the Under-17 World Cup last month, where he scored five goals, including a hat-trick against Brazil in the quarter-final.
This signing bears similarities to the deal that brought Julian Alvarez to Manchester City from River Plate in January 2022. Alvarez spent six months in Argentina before joining the club and has since played a crucial role in their success, helping them win the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup. He has also scored 27 goals in 75 games and won the World Cup with Argentina.
If Echeverri can replicate even a fraction of Alvarez’s success, he will undoubtedly be considered a successful signing for Manchester City.
