Manchester City Charged by FA for Failing to Control Players in Draw with Tottenham
Manchester City has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for their failure to control their players during the Premier League draw against Tottenham on Sunday. The incident occurred when referee Simon Hooper awarded a free-kick to City in stoppage time after Jack Grealish appeared to be through on goal. The players surrounded the referee, and despite initially indicating an advantage for City, Hooper eventually halted the match once the pass was played.
FA Charges and Deadline for Response
The FA has given Manchester City until Thursday, 7 December, to respond to the charge. In a statement, the FA mentioned that the defending champions “failed to ensure their players do not behave in a way which is improper.” However, no further charges will be issued relating to the fixture, meaning that striker Erling Haaland, who protested against the referee both during and after the game, will not face individual punishment.
City’s Recent Draw Streak
This draw against Tottenham marks the third consecutive Premier League game in which Manchester City has drawn. They were also held by Liverpool and Chelsea. As a result, City currently sits in third place in the Premier League standings, with a three-point gap behind leaders Arsenal.
