Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was full of praise for his side following their emphatic 4-1 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens were without star striker Erling Haaland, but still managed to put in an impressive display to keep their title hopes alive.
Guardiola was delighted with the performance, labelling it “almost perfect”. He said: “We played really well and created a lot of chances. We had a lot of control and we defended well. We scored four goals and could have had more. It was an almost perfect performance.”
The Catalan boss was also quick to praise his players for their efforts despite the absence of Haaland. He said: “I’m very proud of my players. They did a great job without Erling, who is a very important player for us. Everyone stepped up and showed their quality.”
The victory saw Manchester City move to within two points of leaders Liverpool, with the two sides set to face each other again in the Premier League on April 4th. Guardiola is confident that his side can go on to win the title if they continue to perform at such a high level. He said: “We have to keep this level of performance and if we do that, we have a chance to win the title.”
The win was also a major boost for Manchester City’s confidence ahead of their Champions League quarter-final clash with Borussia Dortmund on April 6th. Guardiola believes that his side can go all the way in Europe this season if they can replicate their performance against Liverpool.
