Mallory Swanson Signs Lucrative Contract Extension with Chicago Red Stars

Chicago Red Stars have secured the services of Mallory Swanson for an additional four years. The team announced the signing of Swanson to a long-term contract, which is being hailed as the most lucrative agreement in the history of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). While the financial terms were not disclosed, CBS Sports reports that the deal includes a fifth-year option and could potentially be worth close to $2 million, with an annual salary of over $400,000.

Record-Breaking Deal

Mallory Swanson’s contract extension would surpass the previous record set by Houston Dash forward María Sánchez, who signed a three-year deal worth $1.5 million in December.

Excitement and Gratitude

In a statement, Mallory Swanson expressed her excitement about staying with the Red Stars: “I am excited to be back with the Red Stars. These last few years have been such a blessing in Chicago, even with the ups and downs, and I can’t wait to be back. I am looking forward to getting to work and helping the team win championships. See everyone soon!”

Last month, The Athletic reported that Mallory Swanson, who was a free agent, would be staying with the Red Stars and had been in contract discussions with the club. Since joining Chicago in 2021, Swanson has been a key player for the team, leading in both goals scored (18) and assists (10) in 51 appearances.

Unfortunately, Swanson’s 2023 season was cut short due to a torn patellar tendon she suffered during an international friendly in April. The injury prevented her from participating in the World Cup and sidelined her for the rest of the year.

Despite the setback, Swanson has been actively training with the Red Stars, as seen in photos she posted on Instagram on October 15. These images show her dedication and determination to return to peak form.
