Maddison’s Cold Response to Maupay Unveiled as Frank Advises Forward on Trolling Avoidance
In a thrilling match between Tottenham and Brentford, James Maddison revealed his cold reply to Neal Maupay after the latter copied his celebration. Tottenham came back strong in the second half, scoring three goals in just ten minutes to secure a 3-1 victory.
The celebrations for all of Tottenham’s goals had a running theme, with players taking a dig at Maupay. Timo Werner played a crucial role in two of the goals, assisting in the second by delivering a low cross to Brennan Johnson, who tapped it into an empty net. Johnson then threw imaginary darts with his tongue out, while Maddison joined in, mocking Maupay.
This retaliation came after an incident in the first half when Maddison clashed with Maupay and copied his celebration. However, Maddison didn’t hold back when asked about the altercation, revealing his savage response: “I told him he hasn’t scored enough goals to have his own celebration so he had to copy mine… a short story, it ended well for us though.”
While Maddison’s response showcased his wit, Brentford boss Thomas Frank advised against such antics. Frank commented on Maupay’s decision to provoke the opposition, saying, “Personally I think it’s better to avoid things like that and just celebrate goals. But I know there is banter going around, and there is always stuff you guys need to talk about. I guess it’s part of the game now.”
Maupay’s goal seemed to wake Tottenham up in the second half, with Destiny Udogie scoring the equalizer moments after Werner found him on the left-hand side. Udogie capitalized on a rebounded shot and swiftly tucked it into the net. Brennan Johnson then made it 2-1, thanks to another impressive play by Werner. Richarlison added to Brentford’s misery by scoring the third goal, also mimicking the dart celebration.
Although Ivan Toney managed to score for Brentford after a mistake from Udogie, Tottenham held on to secure all three points.
In a match filled with goals, celebrations, and banter, Tottenham emerged victorious. Maddison’s sharp response to Maupay’s imitation added an extra layer of entertainment to the game. While some may enjoy the playful jabs, Frank’s advice to avoid such situations highlights the importance of focusing on the game itself. Ultimately, Tottenham’s strong second-half performance secured a well-deserved win.
