Alexis Mac Allister: From Football Stickers to World Cup Glory
Liverpool’s new signing Alexis Mac Allister has had an incredible journey to the top of the world. From playing his first 11-a-side game for Club JJ Batista against Independiente to winning the World Cup for his country in December, Mac Allister has come a long way.
It was a bit of a funny situation when Mac Allister was asked to play his first 11-a-side game. He was still small for his age and wasn’t sure he wanted to play on a full-sized pitch. But with a bit of persuasion from his brother Kevin Mac Allister, he revealed how football stickers are a part of his journey.
Speaking about the situation, Mac Allister told LFC TV: “They started off with just the one [packet], but soon went up to 10 because I kept pressing them for more. I was apprehensive at first about playing a year up, but the stickers did the trick.”
Mac Allister’s godfather recalled the events when talking to the Liverpool Echo: “We won the game and he [Alexis] scored two goals in an age group [one year] higher than his and in which he had never played. The packets somewhat motivated him!”
Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton for £35 million in the summer, and with the money he is earning now, he could afford to complete the 2022 World Cup sticker book, and it would have his own face inside.
It’s clear that Mac Allister is now fearless on the ball for Liverpool, but it wasn’t always that way. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to reach the top of the world, and it all started with those football stickers.
Mac Allister’s Early Career
Mac Allister began his career at Club JJ Batista in Argentina, where he made his debut at the age of 11. He quickly made an impression and was soon signed by Argentinos Juniors, where he made his professional debut in 2017.
He went on to make over 50 appearances for the club before joining Brighton in January 2020. He made an immediate impact at Brighton, scoring four goals in 12 appearances before joining Liverpool in the summer.
Winning the World Cup
Mac Allister’s impressive performances for Brighton saw him earn a call-up to the Argentina national team for the 2020 World Cup. He made three appearances during the tournament and was part of the team that won the competition, beating Brazil 3-1 in the final.
It was a huge moment for Mac Allister and his family, and it capped off an incredible journey from playing his first 11-a-side game for Club JJ Batista against Independiente to winning the World Cup with Argentina.
A Bright Future Ahead
Mac Allister is now looking forward to a bright future at Liverpool. He has already made an impression at Anfield, scoring two goals in four appearances so far this season.
He will be looking to add more trophies to his collection in the coming years and will be hoping to help Liverpool win their first Premier League title since 1990.
Alexis Mac Allister has come a long way since playing his first 11-a-side game for Club JJ Batista against Independiente. His story is an inspiration to all young footballers and shows that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
