According to reports from talkSPORT, Brighton has granted permission to Alexis Mac Allister to undergo a medical at Liverpool. The Argentine midfielder is expected to complete his tests today and finalize the necessary paperwork for the deal on Wednesday. The transfer is said to be worth up to £55 million, after the Reds activated the release clause in Mac Allister’s contract at the AMEX Stadium.
Liverpool had been pursuing the 24-year-old as their primary midfield target, after deciding against a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. Mac Allister joined Brighton from Argentinos Juniors in 2019 and has since made 112 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists.
Despite signing a new contract in October, Mac Allister’s deal reportedly included a clause that facilitated negotiations with Liverpool. The midfielder played a crucial role in helping Brighton qualify for Europe for the first time in their history, finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi acknowledged that Mac Allister and teammate Moises Caicedo could be leaving the club soon, saying, “I think it can be the last game for Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo. It is right that they can leave, they can play at a higher level.”
