Lyon reject Manchester United’s loan bid for Nicolas Tagliafico
Lyon have rejected Manchester United’s bid to sign Nicolas Tagliafico on a loan, and have instead insisted that an obligation to buy must be included in any deal.
United are scouring the market for an emergency left-back following injury to Luke Shaw. The Englishman is set to be sidelined for two months with a muscular injury, and Tyrell Malacia is already injured.
United’s Search for Left-Back Solutions
United have opened talks over a number of different deals, with Sergio Reguillon, Marc Curcurella and Marcos Alonso under consideration. However, Tagliafico has been touted as a potential solution.
The Argentine worked under Ten Hag at Ajax and left for Lyon in the same summer the Dutchman departed for Old Trafford. The defender made 41 appearances in an impressive debut campaign for the Ligue 1 club, and they had no intention of parting with the defender.
Lyon’s Demands
But, after holding talks with United over a loan deal, Le Parisien say Lyon have made it clear they will not entertain a season-long deal. Instead, the French outfit want United to include an obligation to buy clause, which would see Tagliafico move to Old Trafford on a permanent basis in 2024.
Tagliafico’s Valuation
Tagliafico is valued at around £10m and would provide United with a long-term solution at left-back. The club are also looking at other options, with Reguillon, Curcurella and Alonso all being considered.
Conclusion
United are in desperate need of a left-back and Tagliafico could be the perfect solution. However, Lyon are unwilling to let him go on loan and are instead insisting on an obligation to buy clause being included in any deal. It remains to be seen if United will meet Lyon’s demands.
