Real Madrid starlet Rodrygo has revealed a brutal dig that Luka Modric made at Mohamed Salah after the Champions League final, and how they used the Liverpool forward as motivation.

Liverpool had already booked their place in the 2022 final in Paris when Salah was asked who he wanted to face out of Madrid and Manchester City in the remaining semi-final.

The Egyptian, who went off injured against Los Blancos after a tangle with Sergio Ramos in the 2018 final, had a clear answer to the question posed.

“I want to play Madrid, I have to be honest,” he said. “City is a really tough team, we played against them a few times this season.

“I think personally, I would prefer Madrid. We lost in the final to them so I want to play against them and hopefully win it.”

Salah later doubled down on those comments speaking about revenge and posting on social media with the caption, ‘We have a score to settle’.

Unfortunately for Salah though, the width of Thibaut Courtois’ forearm stopped him settling any score, meaning Vinicius Jr’s first half goal won the tie.

Madrid’s players spoke about Salah after collecting the club’s 14th European Cup, but it turns out Modric went way further than his teammates, as revealed by Rodrygo.

The semi-final hero told Cortes Podcast: “I have to tell a funny anecdote: when the Champions League final ended, we made a corridor for the Liverpool players.

“Salah passed by discouraged, and Modric, who was on the other side, greeted him and said: ‘All right, all right, next time you can try again’.”

The Brazilian also confirmed that he and his teammates had Salah in mind during the lead up to the game, regularly talking about his comments in training.

Modric perhaps had a more reserved reputation when he played in the Premier League with Tottenham, but as his status has grown as one of the greatest players the game has seen, so has his s***housery.

Salah isn’t the first player to be brutally slammed by the Croatian, with Barcelona’s Gerard Pique also once left burned by him.

After a 2-1 lockdown El Clasico win over their rivals in October 2021 Modric already knew what was coming when he saw Pique enter the pitch, and the cameras picked up his harsh but hilarious comments.

“Are you ready to go complain now?” Modric asked Pique as he passed him off the pitch.

“Man four minutes [stoppage time]!” The Spaniard replied.

“How many did you want?” exclaimed the Ballon d’Or winner, before tutting at Pique who did in fact go to the referees to express his displeasure.
