Luis Diaz’s potential move from Liverpool to Barcelona has been a subject of ongoing speculation in Spain and Colombia. Despite Diaz’s statement that he is “very happy” at Liverpool, rumors continue to circulate about his possible transfer.
Diaz expressed his contentment at Liverpool, emphasizing that it is a great team and club. He affirmed his focus on the Colombian national team and stated that he is not thinking about anything else. Although his contract with Liverpool runs until 2027, Diaz hinted that he plans to return to the club after the Copa America.
Barcelona’s interest in Diaz has been acknowledged by The Athletic, and Colombian journalist Breinner Arteta Canizares went a step further, claiming that a meeting between Diaz’s representatives and emissaries from a Spanish club is scheduled to take place in the United States.
According to reports, Diaz has everything lined up to leave Liverpool and join LaLiga. Sport’s Joaquim Piera revealed that Diaz and Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes are the two players Barcelona has chosen to reinforce key positions. However, the ongoing European Championship and the upcoming Copa America make the transfer window unpredictable and lengthy.
Barcelona is expected to wait for a “domino effect” from other major transfers before finalizing their moves. Nevertheless, it seems that Diaz is considered the ideal left winger by sporting director Deco and has received approval from new Barcelona manager Hansi Flick.
While Liverpool is planning for pre-season with Diaz, The Athletic’s report suggests that a deal could still be struck. However, Liverpool would demand a significant fee for the Colombian winger due to his three remaining years on his contract and their desire to make a profit on the £50 million they spent to acquire him.
It remains to be seen whether Barcelona can meet Liverpool’s financial expectations, considering their well-documented financial issues. Nevertheless, Barcelona has managed to make substantial signings in recent seasons, such as Ferran Torres, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Robert Lewandowski, and Vitor Roque, despite their financial constraints.
