Former Manchester United player Louis Saha has suggested that the club should sign French winger Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona for €50m (£44m) in the summer transfer window. United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the 2023-24 season and has been linked to several players. Dembele, who has been at Barcelona for six years, has scored five goals and made five assists across 18 games in La Liga this season. He has scored a total of 40 goals and made 41 assists in 178 appearances since joining the Catalan club from Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Dembele has won two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies with Barcelona and is likely to win more silverware this season, with his side currently 12 points clear of second-placed Real Madrid at the top of the league.
However, with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2024, there has been speculation that Dembele may switch clubs in the summer. Saha believes that United should activate his release clause, as he would be a bargain. He said that he would want players who would be a guaranteed success for Manchester United and that with Dembele, they would get goals and assists. However, Saha also believes that Dembele has not yet reached his full potential and that he is a potential wasted talent. He added that there is no other player like him and that if he were to compete with Jadon Sancho at United, it would be magic competition.
Meanwhile, United goalkeeper David de Gea has spoken out about his future at the club after rejecting a contract offer. The Spanish international said that he is happy at United and that he wants to stay at the club for many years. He added that he is focused on helping the team win trophies and that he is enjoying playing under ten Hag. United legend Andy Cole has also advised the club to abandon their pursuit of Netherlands international Levi Colwill, as he believes that the 18-year-old is not yet ready for the Premier League. Colwill is currently on loan at Huddersfield Town from Chelsea.
