England have progressed to the last-16 stage of the U20 World Cup, with Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah’s efforts at the back being key. Manager Ian Foster has stepped up an age group and his squad for this summer’s tournament in Argentina is largely made up of his U19s from 2022. Quansah has started all three games for England so far, with victories over Tunisia (1-0) and Uruguay (3-2) in their opening two games securing their progress to the knockout stages. However, a 0-0 draw against Iraq in their Group E closer meant they had to settle for a place in the last 16 as winners of the group.
Quansah is likely to start their next tie against Italy on Tuesday night, with Liverpool also keeping an eye on midfielder Alex Scott, a 19-year-old Bristol City talent who started both of the wins over Tunisia and Uruguay, assisting Darko Gyabi’s eventual winner in the latter. Other players of interest include Cesare Casadei, the Italy and Chelsea midfielder who spent this season on loan at Reading, who is currently the top scorer with four goals.
