Liverpool’s pursuit of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has gained momentum in Spain, but sources within the club are less certain. The Reds have identified Mamardashvili as a potential long-term replacement for Alisson and reports suggest they could sign the 23-year-old this summer before loaning him out.
Spanish sources Relevo, AS, and Marca have all provided updates on the situation, with Relevo stating that Liverpool are working diligently to secure the goalkeeper’s signature. AS journalist Julian Burgos claims that Liverpool informed Valencia of a final offer for Mamardashvili, which is expected within 72 hours. It is understood that Liverpool intends to sign him and loan him to a Premier League club until 2025/26, with several English teams expressing interest.
Marca’s Diego Pico reports that Liverpool has already made up their minds on the deal, and there is even a possibility that Mamardashvili could return to Valencia on loan. While Mamardashvili is eager for the move to happen, Valencia is expected to lower their initial asking price of €40 million.
Liverpool insiders, however, have a different perspective on the situation. The Athletic’s James Pearce and the Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle both state that the Reds are merely monitoring Mamardashvili and have no immediate plans to sign a goalkeeper this summer. Doyle does suggest that a move could be possible for next season, aligning with claims that Mamardashvili could be loaned out before joining Liverpool.
Interestingly, Liverpool journalists have not dismissed the reports of their interest in Mamardashvili, indicating that a transfer could be on the horizon. The lack of confirmation from the club could be part of negotiation tactics, as Liverpool may be seeking a more favorable payment structure. If the deal proceeds, it is likely to involve multiple clubs, including Valencia, Liverpool, and the team that takes Mamardashvili on loan. This complexity could result in a longer process for finalizing the transfer.
