Liverpool Reportedly Plan to Beat Newcastle United to Signing Crystal Palace Star Marc Guehi

Liverpool is said to have a plan in place to outmaneuver Newcastle United in the race to sign Crystal Palace’s highly-rated defender, Marc Guehi. Guehi, who was arguably England’s standout player at Euro 2024, has caught the attention of several top clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. However, it is Newcastle who have been most persistent in their pursuit of the center-back.

Despite Newcastle’s interest, Crystal Palace has remained firm on their £70 million valuation of Guehi, rejecting three bids from the Magpies. With the transfer deadline fast approaching, it appears increasingly unlikely that the move will materialize. Recent developments at Selhurst Park have further diminished Newcastle’s chances of securing the player.

Following the sale of Joachim Andersen to Fulham and a knee injury to summer signing Chadi Riad, Crystal Palace now has even less incentive to sell Guehi. The club has, however, agreed to buy Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg for €18 million (£15.2 million). However, Lacroix is seen as a replacement for Andersen, not Guehi.

Guehi himself seems content to stay at Crystal Palace, having captained the team and started all three of their opening matches this season. This is a blow to Newcastle’s hopes of securing the highly-rated defender.

With Newcastle’s plan faltering, Liverpool is now looking to capitalize on the situation. The Reds are reportedly monitoring Guehi’s situation and are prepared to make a move for the player if he remains at Crystal Palace after the transfer window. Liverpool’s interest in Guehi is not new, as they have been tracking the Three Lions star for some time.

Liverpool hopes that by the time they make their move, Crystal Palace will have lowered Guehi’s price tag. The player currently has just two years left on his contract, and if he does not sign an extension, Crystal Palace will likely look to cash in on him. This would present an opportunity for Liverpool to secure a new center-back, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding Virgil van Dijk’s future at Anfield.

For now, Crystal Palace, with or without Guehi, is preparing for a challenging match against Chelsea, while Liverpool faces their arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford. The outcome of these matches could have implications for the clubs’ transfer plans.

In conclusion, Liverpool’s reported plan to beat Newcastle United to the signing of Marc Guehi showcases their ambition to strengthen their defensive options. While Crystal Palace’s firm stance and Guehi’s contentment at the club pose challenges, Liverpool remains hopeful that they can secure the highly-rated defender in the future.
