Liverpool Youngster Trey Nyoni Trains with First Team Ahead of FA Cup Clash Against Arsenal
Liverpool’s upcoming FA Cup third-round match against Arsenal will see the inclusion of several academy players, including 16-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni. With at least nine senior players unavailable for the game, manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to rely on the youth talent to bolster his squad.
Nyoni, who joined Liverpool from Leicester in the summer, has already made significant progress this season, transitioning from the U18s to the U21s. He has also been on the fringes of the first team, making the bench for November’s 3-0 victory over Brentford. Now, he has the opportunity to be involved in the FA Cup clash.
In a recent training session at the AXA Training Centre, Nyoni was joined by returning loanees Owen Beck and Nat Phillips, as well as regulars Conor Bradley, Luke Chambers, James McConnell, Bobby Clark, and Kaide Gordon. The young players were seen warming up alongside established stars like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, and Joe Gomez. Virgil van Dijk was also present, although not spotted in the pictures.
As part of the goalkeeper group, Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher trained separately. The Liverpool squad traveling to London is expected to consist of twenty outfield players. However, Klopp has yet to determine the starting lineup for the match against Arsenal.
Speaking about potential rotation for the game, Klopp expressed uncertainty, stating, “I’m not sure if Arsenal now is a game to rotate. I sit here and I’m not 100 percent if we have the opportunity to do so, to be honest.”
Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah (AFCON), Wataru Endo (Asian Cup), and Dominik Szoboszlai (injury) for the upcoming match.
The inclusion of young talent like Nyoni highlights Liverpool’s commitment to nurturing and developing promising players. With the opportunity to showcase their skills on a bigger stage, these academy players have the chance to make a significant impact in the FA Cup clash against Arsenal.
