Liverpool’s shrewd transfer business in the midfield has been highlighted by a new study, which reveals that the club secured deals for Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister at a significant discount. The study, conducted by the CIES Observatory, ranks the 100 most valuable players worldwide based on transfer value.
According to the study, Szoboszlai is considered the fourth-most valuable midfielder in the world, with a market value of £92 million. This is a staggering £32 million more than what his previous club, RB Leipzig, received for his transfer to Liverpool. Mac Allister’s value is projected to be £83.6 million, an impressive £48.6 million more than the £35 million Liverpool paid for him. These findings underscore the exceptional business conducted by Liverpool when they activated release clauses in the players’ contracts.
Not only did Szoboszlai and Mac Allister prove their worth on the field, with only Virgil van Dijk and Luis Diaz playing more minutes than Mac Allister, but they also made significant contributions in terms of goalscoring. Both players ended the season as joint sixth-highest goalscorers for Liverpool, with seven goals each.
Liverpool’s success in acquiring these midfielders at such favorable prices is further highlighted by the fact that four other Liverpool players feature in the top 100 most valuable players worldwide. Darwin Nunez ranks as the seventh-most valuable forward, valued at £91.9 million. Cody Gakpo is valued at £84.3 million, Harvey Elliott at £67.4 million, and Luis Diaz at £66.6 million.
Interestingly, the study also reveals the missed opportunity for Liverpool to secure the services of Moises Caicedo last summer. Caicedo, who Liverpool attempted to sign, is valued at £69.4 million. This is significantly less than the £111 million bid Liverpool made for him, as well as the £45.6 million more that Chelsea eventually paid for his transfer.
Looking ahead to the upcoming transfer window, two rumored targets for Liverpool, Mohammed Kudus and Johan Bakayoko, also feature in the study. Kudus is valued at £76.3 million, while Bakayoko’s value is estimated at £55.6 million.
At the top of the list, the most valuable player in the world is Jude Bellingham, valued at a staggering £238.8 million. Bellingham recently signed for Real Madrid for up to £115 million, further emphasizing the significance of his talent and potential.
Liverpool’s ability to secure players such as Szoboszlai and Mac Allister at a significant discount showcases the club’s astute transfer strategy. By leveraging release clauses and identifying undervalued talents, Liverpool has managed to strengthen their midfield without breaking the bank. With the upcoming transfer window on the horizon, fans can look forward to more strategic acquisitions that will bolster Liverpool’s squad and enhance their chances of success in future seasons.
