Liverpool Football Club is yet to officially announce the appointment of Sipke Hulshoff as Arne Slot’s assistant coach. While Slot officially took over as head coach on June 1, the club has not provided much information regarding his backroom staff. However, it is expected that Hulshoff will join him as his number two.
Hulshoff recently gave a cryptic update about his move to Liverpool in an interview with regional broadcaster RTV NOF. He mentioned that it is ultimately the head coach’s decision on who joins the team and expressed his confidence in Slot. Hulshoff’s move to Liverpool seems all but certain, as he has already left his position with the Netherlands national team in anticipation.
There may be a delay in Hulshoff’s appointment due to the need for a work permit, which has also raised doubts about the arrival of technical advisor Etienne Reijnen. However, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk effectively confirmed Hulshoff’s appointment in an interview with NOS before the European Championship, expressing his happiness for both Slot and Hulshoff.
Currently, Hulshoff is still in the Netherlands and even attended a match between his former club SC Twijzel and VV Steenwijk on Sunday. It is likely that he is eagerly awaiting his move to Liverpool and the opportunity to begin working with Slot.
Liverpool has experienced significant changes in its coaching staff, with assistants Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz leaving the club along with former head coach Jurgen Klopp. Additionally, at least five other staff members have chosen to depart. Vitor Matos has joined Lijnders at Red Bull Salzburg, and head of goalkeeping John Achterberg will be joining Steven Gerrard’s staff at Al-Ettifaq. Assistant goalkeeping coach Jack Robinson has also left the club, but Claudio Taffarel has decided to stay. Furthermore, fitness staff Andreas Kornmayer and Andreas Schlumberger have moved on as well.
While Liverpool has made several off-field appointments, many of them for positions within Fenway Sports Group rather than the club itself, the composition of Slot’s coaching staff remains unconfirmed. Fans eagerly await the official announcement from Liverpool regarding Hulshoff’s appointment and the rest of the backroom staff.
