This Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, Liverpool will host Nottingham Forest at Anfield in their 31st Premier League game of the season. The Reds are looking to build on their impressive 6-1 win against Leeds, which provided a much-needed relief for the team and their fans after five games without a win. Unfortunately, Roberto Firmino has been added to the injury list and will miss the next three games due to a muscle issue. Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, are in danger of being relegated from the Premier League in their first season playing top-flight football since 1999. They have struggled to maintain any consistency and have the poorest away record in the top flight.
Jurgen Klopp hinted that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s new role could be here to stay and that he “has the potential to play there.” It is likely that Klopp will stick with the same team as against Leeds, with Curtis Jones possibly dropping out due to ongoing fitness limitations. Fabinho also has two games to avoid picking up a yellow card that would see him serve a two-match suspension.
Opposition fans will hold up a 30-foot banner at Anfield that reads: ‘Respect The 97, Solidarity With Survivors, No To Tragedy Chanting’ in order to send a message about vile chanting about tragedies, in particular the Hillsborough disaster. Michael Oliver will be the referee for this match, with Paul Tierney as the lead VAR and Anthony Taylor as fourth-official duties.
Liverpool and Nottingham Forest last met at Anfield in October 1998, when the hosts won 5-1 in the league with Michael Owen scoring four. Forest have taken just five points from their last 23 league visits to Anfield. The game won’t be broadcast on UK television, but you can keep up to date with the game at This Is Anfield with Sam Millne’s matchday live blog. Come on you Reds!
