James McConnell headed home a cross from Calum Scanlon, before Lewis Koumas made it 2-0 with just six minutes on the clock. Newcastle had a golden opportunity on the cusp of half-time but Lucas Pitt made a vital block to retain Liverpool’s two-goal lead. At the break, Elijah Gift and Kerron Samuels replaced Keyrol Figueroa and Luca Furnell-Gill respectively. Gift netted his goal seven minutes into the second half, with McConnell’s fine pass into the channel seeing the Spanish winger drift onto it and finish with his left. Lucas Pitt then turned a low cross beyond Luke Hewitson and in for an unwelcome own goal for the Under-16s defender. The 3-1 win leaves Liverpool in sixth, though they could finish as low as eighth if other results go against them over the next week. Calum Scanlon was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance. Liverpool U18s will now face Leicester and Tottenham in friendlies before a post-season tournament in Zurich.
