Liverpool Transfer Update: Kostas Tsimikas Stays Put as Club Shows No Desire for Greek Left-Back to Leave

Liverpool’s left-back Kostas Tsimikas has been the subject of transfer speculation once again this summer. However, the reason behind the lack of progress on any transfer rumors lies in Liverpool’s firm stance on the matter. Tsimikas, who enjoyed a rare seven-week break this summer, returned for pre-season training from day one, providing insight into the demands of new manager Arne Slot.

Despite starting in 17 games last season, Tsimikas has been unable to silence the transfer speculation surrounding him. However, according to Ian Doyle from The Echo, there is currently no desire from either the club or the player for Tsimikas to leave. It seems that Tsimikas is content with his role as deputy to first-choice left-back Andy Robertson, and with no pressure from both parties to change this dynamic, the status quo is likely to remain.

In mid-June, Lewis Steele, a reporter for The Mail, stated on The Redmen TV’s ‘Transfer Insight’ show that he wouldn’t be surprised if Tsimikas left this summer based on certain information he had heard. However, it’s important to note that Tsimikas signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool less than a year ago, committing his future to the club until 2027. This could explain the lack of unrest from the 28-year-old.

Arne Slot, who recently joined Liverpool as manager, is still assessing the squad he has inherited. While circumstances could change as the summer progresses, it remains uncertain whether any club would be willing to make a bid for Tsimikas.

Since joining Liverpool in 2020, Tsimikas has averaged 21.5 appearances per season, which is half of Robertson’s average in the same timeframe. Robertson has also reported for pre-season training and joins Tsimikas, Owen Beck, and Luke Chambers as notable left-back options in the squad. All three players featured in a friendly match against Preston.

Overall, while transfer speculation continues to surround Kostas Tsimikas, Liverpool’s firm stance and the player’s own contentment as Robertson’s deputy suggest that a move is unlikely at this stage. With a new manager in place and Tsimikas recently signing a long-term contract, it seems that Liverpool values the Greek left-back as an important part of their squad.
