Liverpool Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister Endorses Fellow Argentine Ezequiel Fernandez
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Argentine midfielder Ezequiel Fernandez in recent days, and it seems they already have one admirer at the club in the form of fellow countryman Alexis Mac Allister. The Reds signed Mac Allister from Brighton at the beginning of the summer window in a deal worth £35 million, and he has already given his seal of approval to the potential target.
Mac Allister Endorses Fernandez
Mac Allister has previously talked up the 21-year-old’s talents, describing him as a player who “understands the game a lot” and recommending him to his then-club Brighton. He told TyC Sports back in January:
“If you ask me a little more about my style, there is a player that I really like and that is Equi Fernandez. He is a player who has all the conditions to reach Europe one day and I hope that can happen to him. He is a player that I like a lot, he understands the game a lot. He is always prepared to receive the ball, he plays with both legs, he can play as a five, as an inside player…he is a player who has certain very good conditions and, if Brighton asked me, I would say his name.”
Mac Allister’s Impressive Start at Anfield
Mac Allister has started all nine of the Reds’ Premier League games so far this season, featuring predominantly as a holding midfielder with Jurgen Klopp displaying faith in his new signing from the outset. Despite the comprehensive nature of the overhaul in the middle of the park, there have been plenty of calls for Liverpool to add a specialist No. 6 to their ranks to allow Mac Allister to operate further up the pitch.
Fernandez Could Be On Show In Copa Libertadores Final
Fernandez is a player who would fit that criteria having spent the majority of his club career as a defensive midfielder. Liverpool’s scouts could get a close look at Fernandez in action next month, with his side Boca Juniors facing another midfield target Andre’s Fluminense in the Copa Libertadores final on November 4.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will make a move for Fernandez, but they already have one admirer in the form of Mac Allister should they wish to do so. The Reds have made some impressive signings this summer and Fernandez could be the latest addition to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield ranks.
