Liverpool squad issue solved by Jones revival

Curtis Jones had a season of two halves in 2022/23. At the beginning of the campaign, he told LFCTV of his ambitions to reach “10 goals and 10 assists” for the Reds, but due to injury threats and lack of availability, it seemed like an impossible goal. However, when he was given an extended opportunity to nail down a place in the team, he grabbed it with both hands and never looked back. He made the slot on the left of Liverpool’s midfield three his own and registered 11 consecutive Premier League starts to close out the campaign. During this time, he became an integral part of the Reds’ late surge and his best moment was a quickfire brace away at Leicester. His worst moment was a disappointing showing during the poor 1-0 away defeat to Nottingham Forest. Going into 2023/24, Jones is now in a position where he can provide stiff competition to any new signings for a starting-berth in the midfield, and his homegrown status is an invaluable asset.
