Liverpool have set their asking price for midfielder Tyler Morton, who has garnered interest from several clubs including RB Leipzig. After successful loan spells at Blackburn and Hull, the 21-year-old academy graduate has caught the attention of Leipzig, Sevilla, Feyenoord, Eintracht Frankfurt, and some Premier League clubs.
Now, Bournemouth, Southampton, and Ipswich have also joined the list of clubs monitoring Morton’s situation. Liverpool values the midfielder at £20 million, which sets a high starting point for negotiations. The club is also seeking the same fee for center-back Sepp van den Berg and “far in excess” of £20 million for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
To understand the context of these valuations, it’s worth considering recent deals involving homegrown talent. Aston Villa signed Lewis Dobbin from Everton for £10 million, while midfielder Tim Iroegbunam moved in the opposite direction for £9 million. Chelsea is set to sign Omari Kellyman from Villa for £19 million, a significant profit on the £600,000 they paid for him two years ago.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin faltered due to the £40 million price tag being deemed too high. A potential switch for Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle to Everton is also unlikely.
Although Liverpool doesn’t face the same financial challenges as some clubs, these inflated transfer market deals have an impact on Morton’s value. While £20 million may have seemed excessive, it is now seen as a reasonable price for an England U21 international with significant experience in the Championship and appearances for Liverpool, including starts in the Champions League.
It remains to be seen if clubs like Leipzig, Feyenoord, or Bournemouth are willing to meet Liverpool’s asking price for Morton. However, given the current market trends and Morton’s potential, it wouldn’t be surprising if they do.
