Liverpool Football Club is reportedly in advanced negotiations to buy back their former training ground, Melwood, for their women’s team. The talks were confirmed by housing developers Torus, who purchased the site from Liverpool in 2019 for £10 million. Melwood had been Liverpool’s home for almost 70 years until the team moved to a new state-of-the-art training facility in Kirkby in 2020. Liverpool’s women’s team have been training at Tranmere Rovers’ Solar Campus and are looking for a new home to consolidate their status in the Women’s Super League. Melwood would provide an up-to-date training ground for the team. The move has been welcomed by local residents who had previously expressed concerns about new houses being built in the area. If a deal goes through, Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler’s foundations will also share the complex with Liverpool Women.
