Calvin Ramsay Facing “Another Couple of Months” Out With Injury at Preston

Back in August, Liverpool loanee Calvin Ramsay was described as having a “nothing major” injury. Now, however, he is facing “another couple of months” out with his injury at Preston. Ramsay has not played a competitive game at senior level since his first start for Liverpool in the League Cup in November of last year.

Ramsay arrived at Liverpool from Aberdeen with undiagnosed back issues, and only featured eight times across first team and U21s during his maiden campaign at Anfield. The decision was made to loan him out for the 2023/24 season, but he suffered an injury prior to the start of the season at Preston. Manager Ryan Lowe explained last month that he could be facing “six to eight weeks” out, but has now revealed that Ramsay is set for a longer layoff.

“He’s still out and probably will be for another couple of months,” Lowe told reporters on Thursday. “At the moment he’s back at Liverpool doing his rehab there. When he’s fit and ready, he’ll be back with us.”

Ramsay may have hoped to be nearing a return to training within the next fortnight, but instead it appears as though the 20-year-old will not be involved for Preston until at least November. This will mark a year since his last senior game.

In Ramsay’s absence, Brad Potts has been an ever-present at right wing-back for Preston in the Championship. North End, who have a strong relationship with Liverpool, are unbeaten in their opening five games and on a four-game winning streak.

Ramsay’s Injury History

Ramsay’s injury history has been a long and difficult one. He arrived at Liverpool from Aberdeen with undiagnosed back issues, and only featured eight times across first team and U21s during his maiden campaign at Anfield. Surgery was then required on a serious knee injury in February, ending his season early.

When Ramsay was loaned out for the 2023/24 season, he suffered an injury prior to the start of the season at Preston. Manager Ryan Lowe initially explained that he could be facing “six to eight weeks” out, but has now revealed that Ramsay is set for a longer layoff.

Ramsay’s Return to Liverpool

Despite being out on loan, Ramsay is still receiving treatment from Liverpool. Loanees out with long-term injuries typically take in their recovery work on Merseyside, and this is the case for Ramsay.

When he is fit and ready, he will return to Preston for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. Until then, Brad Potts will continue to fill in at right wing-back for Preston in the Championship.

Conclusion

Calvin Ramsay has had a difficult start to his career at Liverpool, suffering from multiple injuries that have kept him out of action for much of the past year. He was initially expected to be out for six to eight weeks, but is now facing “another couple of months” out with his injury at Preston.

In the meantime, he is receiving treatment from Liverpool and will return to Preston when he is fit and ready. Until then, Brad Potts will continue to fill in at right wing-back for Preston in the Championship.
