Liverpool have responded to reports that they have agreed personal terms with France international Khephren Thuram ahead of a potential transfer. Jurgen Klopp is desperate to bring in at least two midfielders this summer and the Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in a deal worth an initial £35m. 22-year-old Thuram, the son of France legend Lilian, is a top target for Liverpool and Nice are reluctant to sell their £52m-rated star. However, according to The Athletic, Liverpool have dismissed speculation that they have already agreed personal terms with the player’s representatives.
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is eager for France team-mate Thuram to join him at Anfield. Konate told RMC Sport: ‘I would be very happy for him [Thuram] to come to Liverpool and I would take him under my wing and I would do everything for him to progress and become the player he wants to become. Khephren is like my little brother, he’s someone I saw growing up. I was with his big brother [fellow France international Marcus] in the training centre, but I saw him grow. I saw him perform and progress at a level… It was incredible. Even when he came to the France team for his first selection. I saw him at the training and I was really surprised by his size and his technical ease.’
Thuram started his senior career at Monaco but has made a name for himself at Nice, making 138 appearances since he joined the club four years ago. Liverpool are yet to agree a deal with Nice for the midfielder, but Klopp is keen to add the France international to his squad this summer.
