Fabio Carvalho Set to Join RB Leipzig on Season-Long Loan
Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho is set to join Bundesliga club RB Leipzig on a season-long loan, according to reports. The 20-year-old, under contract until 2027, joined Liverpool from Fulham last summer and has made 21 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Background
Carvalho started his career in the youth ranks at Benfica before he moved to England and joined Fulham’s academy. He made 44 appearances for the west Londoners, helping them the Championship title as he was named in the PFA’s Team of the Season.
Liverpool Performance
Carvalho scored in Premier League wins over AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United as well as in a Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City. He can be deployed in a number of positions including as a left winger, attacking midfielder or central midfielder. Carvalho, who has four caps for Portugal U21s having represented England from U16 to U18 level, is now set to spend time away from Anfield to continue his development.
RB Leipzig Move
New reports indicate that Carvalho is on his way to Germany to complete his 12-month loan move after a full agreement was reached last week. RB Leipzig, who finished third in the Bundesliga last season – five points behind champions Bayern Munich – do not have a buy option included in the deal.
Liverpool Changes
Liverpool, meanwhile, are making changes to their squad following their disappointing 2022-23 campaign as they missed out on the top four. The Reds have already signed Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies from Schalke and Preston North End respectively, while they are also reportedly interested in signing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa and Sporting Lisbon star Tiago Tomas.
Conclusion
Carvalho’s move to RB Leipzig is a great opportunity for the 20-year-old to gain valuable experience at a top European club. The loan move will also give Liverpool the chance to assess his development before deciding whether or not he has a future at Anfield. With Klopp looking to make changes to his squad this summer, Carvalho could be one of many players to leave the club in the coming weeks.
