Liverpool Considering Keeping Nat Phillips for Second Half of Season
Liverpool FC is contemplating the idea of retaining Nat Phillips for the remainder of the season after his challenging loan spell at Celtic. The 26-year-old defender joined Celtic on a six-month deal in August but only managed to play just over 300 minutes in the league during his time there.
With the loss of Joel Matip due to a serious knee injury, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s options at centre-half have been limited. While youngster Jarell Quansah has impressed, Liverpool is cautious about the depth in their defense. Ibrahima Konate’s proneness to muscle injuries and Joe Gomez’s versatility as backup at right-back and left-back are factors that contribute to this caution.
Nat Phillips could potentially play a part in Liverpool’s FA Cup trip to Arsenal on Sunday. However, if he does feature in any capacity, he will not be able to go on another loan due to FIFA rules that prohibit players from representing three clubs in a single season.
As a result of these regulations, Fabio Carvalho and Rhys Williams are not expected to be involved in the match against Arsenal. Both players have returned from disappointing loan spells at RB Leipzig and Aberdeen, respectively, and Liverpool is now seeking alternative loan clubs for them.
