Liverpool loanee Tyler Morton has had his appeal upheld by the FA following his harsh sending off on New Year’s Day. Morton, who joined Hull on a season-long loan deal, will now be able to make his return earlier than expected as his three-match suspension has been overturned.
During Hull’s match against Sheffield Wednesday, Morton was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Djeidi Gassama. However, many believed the decision was harsh as the midfielder went in strongly but not recklessly. Unfortunately, Hull ended up losing the match 3-1.
Hull lodged an appeal after the incident and were successful in having Morton’s ban removed after a review from a three-person independent panel. This means that Morton will be available for Hull’s FA Cup third-round clash with Birmingham.
Morton has been performing well during his loan spell at Hull, having made 20 appearances for the Championship side so far. He will also be able to feature in Hull’s league match against Norwich and the subsequent trip to Sunderland.
The 21-year-old midfielder had a successful stint at Blackburn last season before it was cut short due to injury. He has also made nine senior appearances for Liverpool during the 2021/22 season, including a full 90 minutes in the Champions League match against AC Milan.
Morton will be hoping to continue his progress with Hull and impress Jurgen Klopp in order to secure a place in Liverpool’s plans for the 2024/25 season. With a shortage of defensive midfield options at Anfield, Morton has the opportunity to leave a lasting impression between now and the end of the campaign.
