Liverpool’s left-back Owen Beck has been sent out on loan for another season, joining Blackburn in the Championship. This move comes after his successful stint with Dundee in the Scottish Premiership last season. While there was interest from clubs like Celtic and Rangers for permanent deals, Liverpool has opted to send him on loan again.
Beck’s arrival at Blackburn will provide competition for first-choice left-back Harry Pickering. Blackburn, currently sitting in third place in the Championship, has had a strong start to the season with two wins and a draw. This loan move will bolster their squad as they aim for promotion.
This season, Liverpool has sanctioned a total of seven loan deals, with Beck’s move being the second to the Championship following Lewis Koumas’ transfer to Stoke. Liverpool’s fruitful relationship with Blackburn in recent years has seen players like Harvey Elliott, Tyler Morton, Leighton Clarkson, and Billy Koumetio spend time on loan at Ewood Park. Elliott’s loan spell in particular was crucial in his development, allowing him to gain regular first-team experience before establishing himself at Anfield.
However, Beck’s loan spell at Blackburn may not have the same long-term impact. At 22 years old, he is approaching an age where he needs to secure a more permanent role. While there is a chance he could return to Liverpool’s squad next season, it remains uncertain.
Blackburn’s next match is against Blackpool in the second round of the Carabao Cup, where Beck is unlikely to be involved. However, he could make his debut on Saturday in the highly anticipated East Lancashire derby against Burnley.
In addition to Beck and Koumas, Liverpool has also sent Luke Chambers and Calvin Ramsay to Wigan, Luca Stephenson to Dundee United, Rhys Williams to Morecambe, and Fabian Mrozek to IF Brommapojkarna on loan this summer. These loan moves highlight Liverpool’s commitment to giving their young players valuable playing time and experience in different competitive environments.
