Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher joins Adrian Durham’s last ever Drive show and revisits famous talkSPORT row about England retirement

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher revisited his famous talkSPORT rant in Adrian Durham’s final ever Drive show.

The ex-Liverpool defender, who’s now a pundit, famously rang up talkSPORT in 2007 to confront Durham.

Carragher called talkSPORT Drive show host Durham after he criticised the then-Liverpool star’s decision to retire from the England national team.

The Kop idol had been listening to the phone-in and was so incensed he got straight on the phone.

The centre-half spent some heated minutes explaining his decision to retire from international football, saying he was disappointed his consistent displays for Liverpool were not rewarded with more England caps.

Carragher then challenged Durham to come to Liverpool with his boxing gloves on.

He added: “If you’ve got any bottle come down to Melwood or Anfield and we’ll see what happens… don’t ever call me a bottler on radio with thousands listening.”

Micky Quinn, who presented the show alongside Durham on that fateful day, said at the time: “We don’t need light bulbs for another month with the heat coming off your [Durham’s] face when that call came through.”

And 15, and Carragher phoned in on the Durham’s final ever Drive show. Fortunately, there was no verbal sparring this time around.

“I am a lot happier than I was about 15 years ago,” Carragher said.

“To be honest, I said at the time I would put you on the map, but with how well your career has gone, you have put me on the map.

“You wound me up that much you made me get back on to the phone to Fabio Capello [the England manager at the time] and see if can get more caps.

“It was pre-season, news had broke in a newspaper, I jump in my car in Melwood, Liverpool’s training ground, we were due back for the second session at about 5pm.

“I am listening to this debate, and I am thinking this is quite lively and then I realise they are talking about me. Then I am trying to get the number all the way to the ground.

“I think Adrian Durham was on with Micky Quinn, who I know quite well. As I got into the car park, I finally got the number and phoned up.

“Micky Quinn got me, and said we will call you back – put please don’t swear!

“I gave you signed shirt in the end when we were on better terms, not sure if you still have it? When you came down to my bar in Liverpool. We have become friends ever since.”

Carragher’s rant with Durham will go down as one of the best moments on talkSPORT.
