Liverpool are leading the race to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next summer, according to reports.

The 19-year-old Golden Boy 2022 nominee, who already has 15 caps for England, is considered one of the best midfielders in Europe and has also been linked with Manchester United as well as Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

United and Liverpool are thought to have the best chance of signing Bellingham, but Jurgen Klopp’s team are now leading the race, according to The Telegraph, with the German boss making no secret of his admiration for the player.

Bellingham joined Dortmund from boyhood club Birmingham City in 2020 and has scored 13 goals in 99 games for the Bundesliga side.

But the Englishman, who will almost certainly be heading to Qatar in November for the World Cup, played down talk of a move this week, feeling it would be disrespectful to Dortmund.

He said: ‘[Dortmund] have done loads for me and made me feel very welcome since I first came and gave me the opportunities to develop even further.

‘To look past that and into the future would be disrespectful.’

Asked if returning to England is a long-term ambition of his, Bellingham added: ‘It’s not something I am thinking about, to be honest.’

Bellingham was named VDV Bundesliga Newcomer of the Season for 2020-21 and was included in the VDV Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2021-22.

He wrote his name into the Champions League record books despite Dortmund losing to Manchester City on Wednesday, becoming the English teenager with the most goals in the history of the competition.

Jamie Carragher has already warned there will be an ‘auction’ for Bellingham next summer, despite the fact that he is under contract until 2025, with the Stourbridge-born teenager likely able to pick whichever top club he fancies.
