Liverpool FC Target Van de Ven Transfer Interest

Micky van de Ven has addressed rumours about his future, saying he “would like” to leave Wolfsburg. This has sparked speculation linking the 22-year-old defender with a move to Liverpool, who have been linked with a number of centre-backs this summer. Van de Ven has operated as both a left-back and a centre-back for his club side, something that could appeal to Jurgen Klopp given Liverpool’s recent system tweak which has left them short of a defender to push Andy Robertson. The young Dutchman is expected to feature in the upcoming European Under-21 Championship, so Liverpool would need to act fast if they were to get any deal over the line before the competition. Wolfsburg are likely to demand a fee of “at least” £34 million, according to WAZ. Another factor that could lead to a bid from Liverpool is the defender’s connection to the Reds’ new sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke, who was working at Wolfsburg when Van de Ven originally joined the Bundesliga outfit in 2021. Liverpool have never signed a player from Wolfsburg before and Schmadtke would be key to changing that.
