Liverpool have been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association following the events of last Saturday’s defeat at Manchester City. The incident in question occurred when a number of Liverpool players surrounded referee Simon Hooper to protest the decision not to issue a second yellow card to City midfielder Rodri for a trip on Cody Gakpo. Rodri had already been booked for pulling back Diogo Jota shortly before the incident.
The FA has given Liverpool until next Wednesday to respond to the charge. Referee Hooper had indicated to Rodri when showing him the yellow card for the Jota foul that his caution was for an accumulation of offences.
The match itself saw Liverpool take the lead early in the first half, only to be beaten 4-1 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The charge of improper conduct will now add to the disappointment felt by the Liverpool players and staff following their defeat.
