Liverpool Devastation: Is It Over?

Date:

The media revelled in Liverpool’s 6-1 victory away to Leeds on Monday, with the Reds showing signs of finding their groove. Ian Ladyman of the Mail felt this was a performance that bodes well for next season, noting that Liverpool were ruthless and clinical in their scoring. The Telegraph praised the Reds’ speed and pleasant play, while the Independent’s Richard Jolly was pleased to see them finally dispatch of a lower-ranked team away from home. Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo hailed the professional nature of the win, and Nathan Ridley of the Mirror enjoyed watching Trent Alexander-Arnold in his new right-back/midfield role. Ian Doyle of the Echo was similarly full of praise for Alexander-Arnold, noting that unlocking his creativity is the key to success for this Liverpool side. Mark Delgado of This Is Anfield praised Diogo Jota’s display, despite a curiously below-par start to the game. Phil Dawkes of BBC Sport admitted Liverpool’s European hopes are slim, but suggested they will be back in 2023/24. Delgado tried to be positive about Liverpool’s hopes of unlikely Champions League qualification, noting that points are there to be won and if they do, they’ll climb the table.
