Liverpool Failed to Sign Newcastle United Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes
Liverpool failed with a £100 million bid to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports. Jurgen Klopp’s side brought in Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo as part of their midfield revamp in the summer transfer window.
But Liverpool also missed out on two key targets as Chelsea won the race to sign both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. According to AS, Liverpool submitted a £100m offer to Newcastle for Guimaraes in the closing stages of the summer window.
Newcastle Rejected Liverpool’s Offer
However, Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s approach for the Brazilian midfielder. Guimaraes joined Newcastle in a £40m deal from Lyon in January 2022 and didn’t take long to make an impact at the heart of Eddie Howe’s midfield.
Speaking about the midfielder’s impact on his Newcastle side, Howe said last month: ‘He’s a hugely important player for us, he’s got that mixture in his game. He’s an unbelievable technician, he takes the ball anywhere. But he’s also got a real grit and determination off the ball as well. He’s been a game-changer for us.’
Liverpool’s Summer Transfer Window
Liverpool’s summer transfer window was a mixed bag. While they were able to bring in some quality players such as Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo, they were unable to land their top targets Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. They also failed in their attempt to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
The Reds will now have to make do with what they have and hope that their new signings can help them challenge for major honours this season. Liverpool have already made a strong start to the season and are currently top of the Premier League table.
Conclusion
Liverpool’s summer transfer window was far from perfect, but they were still able to bring in some quality players. However, they were unable to land their top targets Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, as well as Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. The Reds will now have to make do with what they have and hope that their new signings can help them challenge for major honours this season.
