After impressing since his arrival at Manchester United, Lisandro Martinez is set to receive a significant pay rise from the club. The Argentine defender chose United over Arsenal last summer, joining in a £47.5 million deal from Ajax. Despite concerns over his height, Martinez has proven his worth with his excellent form this season. Currently sidelined with a foot injury, United have missed his presence in defence. However, Martinez’s adaptation to life in the north-west has pleased manager Ten Hag, and the club is keen to reflect his status in the side with a new deal. Once the club’s ownership issue is resolved, Martinez will be offered a deal closer to £170,000-a-week, up from his current £120,000-a-week. His contract expires in 2027, and there is unlikely to be any additional time added on to that. Despite initial fears that he had torn his Achilles when he was forced off against Sevilla last month, Martinez is on course to return in time for pre-season.
