Detroit Lions’ Rookie Tight End Sam LaPorta Sidelined with Knee Injury
Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta will be out of action due to a knee injury sustained during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. The rookie player from Iowa landed awkwardly after being tackled by Vikings safety Josh Metellus with just under two minutes remaining in the second quarter. Although LaPorta initially walked off the field with assistance from trainers, he was later taken to the locker room on a cart.
Record-Breaking Season for LaPorta
Despite the unfortunate injury, LaPorta managed to make history during the game. His 2-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter marked his 82nd reception of the season, setting a new record for the most receptions by a rookie tight end in NFL history. He surpassed the previous record of 83 receptions set by Brandon Pettigrew in 2011.
Lions’ Playoff Hopes and Standings
The Detroit Lions, currently holding an 11-5 record, have already secured a playoff spot by winning the NFC North division title. They are currently the No. 3 seed in the conference but have the opportunity to move up to the No. 2 seed with a victory against the Minnesota Vikings, combined with losses by the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
