If you haven’t tuned into the world of football since Monday night, well, you may need to sit down for this.
Grab a cuppa and get ready to ride the emotional rollercoaster that was Tuesday 22nd November, as we reflect on a truly wild day.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina getting beaten by Saudi Arabia in arguably the greatest upset in World Cup history? That is so old news.
Since then, Cristiano Ronaldo became unemployed and Manchester United went up for sale, making it an even better day for the Saudis.
Olivier Giroud, meanwhile, picked the wrong day to become France’s joint-top goalscorer alongside Arsenal legend Thierry Henry after the world champions actually went behind to Australia.
On the other hand, Poland’s Robert Lewandowski probably expected to make headlines for all the wrong reasons after missing a penalty against Mexico and continuing his bizarre World Cup drought. But he won’t.
Did we mention England captain Harry Kane is having a scan on a possible ankle injury ahead of the USA game on Friday? Keep up!
One thing is for certain: you don’t have to worry about what happened in Denmark vs Tunisia – because the answer is nothing.
Like the famous Premier League Goal of the Month competition for December 2006, here’s arguably the most impressive daily rundown of football news you’ve ever seen.
Argentina lose to Saudi Arabia in World Cup opener
Saudi Arabia’s win over Argentina will go down as one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.
This was not in the script. Lionel Messi’s side were supposed to be one of the favourites in what was predicted to be a glorious swansong to his illustrious career.
But along came Saudi Arabia and ruined everything by getting a 2-1 win.
European football expert Julien Laurens told talkSPORT: “Really incredible. This is what the World Cup is all about. This is one of the biggest, greatest, upsets of all-time along with North Korea’s win against Italy in 1966, Cameroon against Argentina in 1990, Senegal against France in 2002.”
Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Manchester United
In their first bombshell announcement of the day, United confirmed one of their greatest-ever players has left the club for the second time.
Ronaldo recently made a series of astonishing claims about the Red Devils during a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.
And now, United have confirmed that the Portugal icon will leave the club with immediate effect.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had seven months left on his contract, but will now become a free agent in January.

Robert Lewandowski misses penalty for Poland
Mexico legend Guillermo Ochoa really doesn’t care for sentiment.
He denied Lewandowski a first-ever World Cup goal with a brilliant save during the 0-0 draw with Poland.
talkSPORT commentator Joe Shennan said: “It’s the first time I’ve seen him look nervous in his career.”
And co-commentator Tony Cascarino responded: “When it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be!”
Olivier Giroud becomes France’s joint all-time leading goalscorer
At one point on this ridiculous day, Australia were beating France – but there was simply no room left in anybody’s head for that tohappen.
Instead, Olivier Giroud bagged a brace to give him a share of France’s all-time goalscoring record in their 4-1 victory.
The goals, his 50th and 51st for his country, put the 36-year-old level with Thierry Henry’s international tally, meaning that just one more would see him claim the record for himself.
That is quite remarkable considering many still aren’t sure whether he’s even that good.
Glazers confirm they are considering selling Man United
As Tuesday continued to try and one-up itself, arguably the most famous football club in the world, with the most unpopular owners, were put up for sale.
United released a statement confirming the Glazers are ‘exploring strategic alternatives’ including a sale.
talkSPORT sources say the possibility of the club changing hands is ‘very real’.
Bankers and lawyers have been instructed to advise on the process, which could also result in a partial sale or a new partnership with third parties, as United insist there is no guarantee of change.
Harry Kane to have scan on ankle injury
Siri, what’s the only thing that could possibly be bigger than all the news that’s already happened today?
A possible injury to the England captain at the World Cup? Yeah, that’ll do it.
Brace yourselves: Harry Kane will have a scan on his ankle ahead of England’s clash with the USA on Friday.
The Three Lions’ skipper was in pain during the second half of the 6-2 victory over Iran on Monday following a challenge from Morteza Pouraliganji.
Despite staying on the pitch until the 75th minute, the 29-year-old was eventually replaced by Callum Wilson.
Kane was then pictured after the match with strapping around his right ankle, causing concern about the injury.
If you’re a Manchester United fan who supports England and likes Messi, go to bed.
You’ve been through enough for one day.
