After drawing 3-3 in extra-time, Argentina beat France on penalties to win the prestigious competition for the first time since 1986.

Messi has since made the most of his monumental triumph, with the 35-year-old taking to Instagram at every opportunity.

In one of his latest posts, he can be seen waking up in bed with the world famous trophy by his side.

Not many can boast such a morning, but his social media success didn’t stop there.

On Monday, he beat Cristiano Ronaldo to the title of the most liked post for a sportsperson.

However, he went one step further the following day as he broke a record for the social media site.

The first picture he uploaded with the World Cup trophy now has the most likes for a post on Instagram with just over 63million, beating the world_record_egg meme.

Winning the World Cup is one of the biggest achievements in football, so it comes as no surprise that Messi is showing off his success.

He and his fellow Argentinians have been in party mode ever since the win, with a huge parade taking place back home in Buenos Aires.

Despite it being 4am, the South American side were out in full force to show off the trophy to their supporters.

An open top bus paraded past tens of thousands of people in the early hours, with another victory parade taking place on Tuesday which has been declared a bank holiday.

Thousands upon thousands of supporters were seen gathering in the centre of Buenos Aires, with celebrations set to continue well into the week.

Messi will be delighted to have finally got his hands on the World Cup, a title that he adds to an already colossal list of success.
