LFC Summer Deadline Day Signings Quiz

Liverpool fans have been eagerly awaiting news of further reinforcements to the midfield this summer, and with the transfer window set to close soon, it looks like the Reds may be in for some last-minute drama.

Since the introduction of the summer transfer window in 2002/03, Liverpool have made 10 deadline day signings. But how many of these can you remember? We’re giving you five minutes to try and get them all.

The Reds have made some big-name signings on deadline day over the years, with players coming in to bolster the squad for the season ahead. In 2018, Liverpool made a last-gasp loan signing in an attempt to rectify shortcomings in the middle of the park, but it was an ultimately unsuccessful deal for all parties.

Here are 10 of Liverpool’s deadline day signings since 2002/03:

1. Joe Cole – 2010

Joe Cole joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2010, signing a four-year contract with the Reds. He made his debut in a 1-0 win over Arsenal and went on to make 42 appearances for the club, scoring five goals.

2. Javier Mascherano – 2007

Javier Mascherano joined Liverpool from West Ham United on deadline day in 2007. The Argentine midfielder made 139 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

3. Ryan Babel – 2007

Ryan Babel joined Liverpool from Ajax on deadline day in 2007. The Dutch winger made 146 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

4. Peter Crouch – 2005

Peter Crouch joined Liverpool from Southampton on deadline day in 2005. The English striker made 134 appearances for the club, scoring 42 goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

5. Craig Bellamy – 2006

Craig Bellamy joined Liverpool from Blackburn Rovers on deadline day in 2006. The Welsh striker made 58 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

6. Robbie Keane – 2008

Robbie Keane joined Liverpool from Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day in 2008. The Irish striker made 28 appearances for the club, scoring 7 goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

7. Alberto Aquilani – 2009

Alberto Aquilani joined Liverpool from Roma on deadline day in 2009. The Italian midfielder made 28 appearances for the club, scoring 3 goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

8. Andy Carroll – 2011

Andy Carroll joined Liverpool from Newcastle United on deadline day in 2011. The English striker made 58 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

9. Mario Balotelli – 2014

Mario Balotelli joined Liverpool from AC Milan on deadline day in 2014. The Italian striker made 28 appearances for the club, scoring 4 goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

10. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 2017

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool from Arsenal on deadline day in 2017. The English midfielder made 66 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals and helping the Reds to two Champions League finals.

So there you have it – 10 of Liverpool’s deadline day signings since 2002/03! While some of these signings have been more successful than others, they all played their part in helping the Reds reach two Champions League finals during this period.

With Liverpool’s transfer window set to close soon, fans will be hoping that Jurgen Klopp can add one more name to this list before time runs out!
